NEW YORK, U.S.A.-President Joseph Boakai has called for urgent structural reform of the international financial architecture.
According to the Liberian Leader, developing countries like Liberia cannot make progress when debt and interest rates continue to escalate, thereby threatening their survival.
Addressing the 81st UN General Assembly, President Boakai called for concessional financing, debt sustainability, and predictable development capital mechanisms.
The Liberian President also wants a fairer voice and vote for developing countries within the Bretton Woods institutions, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
President Boakai described a reform of the international financial system as not just a technical exercise, but a critical initiative towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
At the same time, President Boakai said his administration remains fully committed to the political, economic, and social equality of women and girls.
He noted that protecting the rights of women and girls remains an integral component of the Liberian government’s national development agenda.
The Liberian Leader believes that when women lead, peace agreements last longer, economies grow faster, and governance becomes more accountable.
According to him, the inclusion of women in international discussions has played a significant role in sustaining peace and stability in Liberia and the sub-region.

In another development, Liberia has joined the world in renewing its call for an immediate end to all hostilities in regions where conflict persists.
The Liberian Leader emphasized the need for urgent humanitarian access to conflict zones and full respect for international humanitarian laws.
President Boakai then called for accelerated efforts to sustain global peace by investing more in preventive diplomacy, mediation, and early warning systems.
According to the Liberian Leader, preventing hostilities through diplomacy is essential to upholding international peace and preserving the lives of millions of people worldwide.
