MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has declared the last Saturday of each month as “National Exercise and Wellness Day,” to be observed throughout the Country.
The Presidential Proclamation, which takes effect from September 2026 through September 2027, has designated the last Saturday of each month, from 6 to 8 in the morning, for the observance.
President Boakai said the initiative is intended to promote regular physical activity, preventive health practices, and a culture of health and wellness among citizens.
The Liberian Leader, in the Proclamation, stressed that the health and well-being of the Liberian people are essential to the peace, security, economic growth, and sustainable development of the country.
Meanwhile, the proclamation calls upon all sectors of society, including public institutions, private organizations, schools, and communities, to support and participate in the observance of the Day.
At the same time, the Health Ministry will on Saturday, September 26, launch the National Exercise and Wellness Day, following a proclamation by President Joseph Boakai.
The inaugural event will begin with a parade from Catholic Junction to the Ministry of Health in Congo Town.
The Director of the Non-Communicable Diseases Unit at the Health Ministry, Jamesetta Smith, said the proclamation came after a survey conducted in 2022 showed 23.8 percent of adults aged 18 to 69 have elevated blood pressure, with 39.3 percent overweight.
Madam Smith said the program will happen simultaneously across the country to promote regular physical activity, healthier lifestyles, and prevention of diseases.
Madam Smith admonished all citizens, government institutions, communities, and partners to join the exercise to promote their well-being.
