One of Liberia Football Association’s Presidential Aspirants, Sekou Keita has strongly rejected his disqualification from contesting the LFA May 15 election.
Sekou Keita reacting to the LFA Independent Election Committee’s decision to disqualify him said his “The decision is not about qualification. It is about interpretation- and more importantly interference”.
Mr. Keita added that, “He satisfied all the eligibility requirements under the statutes, adding that his nomination was submitted by a recognized member of the LFA – the Beach Soccer Association, acting through its legitimate majority in line with the rights granted under the statutes”.
The LFA Independent Election Committee in its release of qualified candidates for the election said, Sekou Keita nomination was not consistent with the mandatory nomination requirement prescribed under article 45.3 of the LFA statutes. The Committee says Sekou Keita’s nomination was done by an individual beach soccer club and not the association.
This Sekou Keita disagrees with, announcing on his Facebook page that he will challenge the decision through the proper legal and football channels.
The ex-Invincible Eleven player said the statutes are clear on members independent right to nominate candidates. He said the LFA electoral body must respect the law and not redefine it.
“They preferred for Cypha G S D’King to nominate me rather than the majority of beach soccer clubs (the association)” Mr. Keita noted.
The LFA Presidential hopeful is with strong confidence that he will be on the ballot to unseat Mustaphai Raji when the election is held.
Among his top agenda, Sekou Keita wants to create a program at the LFA that will give footballers life or other opportunities after their football career has ended.
Sekou Keita’s disqualification means, Mustaphai Raji will contest on white ballot as president of the LFA, as the other aspirant Cassell Kouh will not contest as well.
