WASH Commission Calls for Implementation of Nat’l Public Health Law

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-WASH Commission Executive Director, George Yarngo is calling for a scrupulous implementation of the National Public Health Law to ensure open defecation is treated as a public health emergency.

Mr. Yarngo said the move would curtail the menace and reduce the associated risks.

Speaking on LNTV Liberia Today Wednesday, Mr. Yarngo quoted the public health law as demanding every home to have toilets to serve its residents and avoid open defecation.

The WASH Executive Director wants open defecation given top priority as COVID and Ebola to ensure it is eliminated from Liberia.

He maintained that open defecation can be stopped if the necessary steps are taken and legal enforcements are implemented by the government.

Mr. Yarngo also called for sectorial collaboration to ensure homes are built with accompanying toilets to enhance the fight against open defecation.
