Pres. Boakai Signs Liberia Energy Compact Agreement…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has signed the Liberia Energy Compact Agreement with the World Bank aims at expanding electricity access to all Liberians.

As part of the agreement, the World Bank has pledged to mobilize one point billion US dollars in investments to improve Liberia’s energy infrastructure.

An Executive Mansion release said the Compact represents a major milestone in the country’s energy transformation, targeting a significant increase in electricity access.

The release noted that the initiative aims at expanding access to one hundred thousand households annually, up from the current seventy thousand.

President Boakai signed the Compact at the just-ended Africa Energy Summit held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

In another development, the Executive Mansion has named Retired General Daniel Ziankahn Military Advisor to the President as Chairman of the ECOMOG Memorial Committee.

The Committee is tasked with overseeing the design, location, cost, and timeline for the construction of a national memorial honoring the sacrifices of the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group.

President Boakai, in his Annual Message, reaffirmed the Liberian Government’s commitment to recognizing the selfless service and ultimate sacrifices made by ECOMOG forces in preserving Liberia’s territorial integrity and unity during the country’s civil conflict.

The memorial will serve as a lasting tribute to the brave men and women from ECOWAS member states who answered Liberia’s call in its time of greatest need.

According to the release, Retired Gen. Daniel Ziankahn, a seasoned military officer brings extensive experience to the role, having served as Liberia’s first post-war Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) for nearly a decade.
