“The Appointment of the 16TH President of the University of Liberia is pivotal…”-Pres. Boakai

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai says the appointment of the 16th President of the University of Liberia (UL) represents a pivotal moment of growth, innovation, and progress of the University.

President Boakai said:” Dr. Layli Maparyan, a respected social scientist, university administrator, and Professor of Gender Studies is best suited to steer the affairs of the UL.”

The Liberian Leader encouraged all members of the UL, including faculty, staff, students, and national and international partners to come together and support the leadership of Dr. Maparyan.

The President believes the move is aimed at restoring the UL to the esteemed position it once held as a leading institution of higher learning in Africa and around the world.

President Boakai spoke at the induction of Dr. Layli Maparyan as the 16th President of the UL on Friday, January 10, 2025, in Louisiana, Rural Montserrado County.

At the same time, President Boakai has pledged the Liberian Government’s unflinching support to upgrade the UL for the benefit of the education of all youths.

President Boakai said:” To execute such a plan, the government will remain committed to addressing the infrastructural and institutional deficiencies stalling the progress of the University.”

According to President Boakai, these institutional reforms are pivotal to encouraging Liberia’s future leaders to learn and thrive in their respective fields of study.

The Liberian Leader, at the same time, has mandated the Ministry of Finance to settle all financial obligations owed to the faculty of the University to foster a conducive learning environment.
