MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has, on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia, signed up to a major commitment to reduce carbon emission to net zero.

President Weah signed the document along with several world leaders including United States President Joe Biden and United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Gutierrez among others.

This means the Liberian Government, like other Governments, has pledged its commitment to offer the political will and support towards the fight against climate change.

Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, Smith Toby, said the leaders affixed their signatures to the document on Tuesday on the margin of the UN Climate Conference in Glasgow, Scotland.

Mr. Toby also said as part of series of negations and bilateral engagements, the Liberian Leader also met in separate meetings with President Biden and the President of Norway, Jonas Gahr Store.

According to him, while there is scanty detail about the meeting between Presidents Weah and Biden, the discussion between the Liberian Leader and the Norwegian President focused on Norway’s investment in the Forestry sector of the Country.

Meanwhile, President George Weah has arrived in Paris, France to participate in for the fourth edition of the Paris Peace Forum and the seventy-fifth anniversary of UNESCO.

Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, Smith Toby said the Liberian Leader’s participation in the two events is based upon an official invitation after attending the UN Climate Change Summit.

Mr. Toby said the Paris Peace Forum is focusing on bridging various gaps in global governance and putting forward new principles of action for a post-Covid world.

According to him, the Liberian Leader is expected to speak at the two events as well as use the two occasions to make a case for the Country through bilateral and multilateral meetings.

Smith Toby said while there is high anticipation of a trickle-down effect, it will however take time for the Country to reap from those engagements by the President.
