MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia National Commission on Arms is calling on individuals in possession of unregistered firearms to register their weapons before the April 2027 amnesty deadline under Executive Order 162.

Speaking on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the Ministry of Information Press Briefing, Arms Commission Vice Chair, Vahnpanah Wymon, said anyone found in possession of an unregistered firearm after the April 2027 deadline will face the full weight of the law.

Wymon disclosed that since the issuance of Executive Order 141 by President Joseph Boakai in March last year, more than one hundred individuals have applied to register their firearms.

He said:” Following a rigorous vetting process, qualified applicants were referred to the Liberia National Police for firearms training and are expected to be certified soon”.

The Arms Commission Vice Chairman warned that individuals found in possession of unregistered firearms after April 2027 could be charged with a first-degree felony, punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment, among other serious offenses.
