MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Koon, has urged graduates of the Sekou I. Sheriff Islamic High School to continue learning and develop skills that will make them useful to society.

Speaker Koon cautioned the graduates against focusing only on passing examinations, urging them to seek a deeper understanding of their studies.

He encouraged them to pursue careers in medicine, education, engineering, law, journalism, and agriculture, among others, for self-reliance.

The House Speaker spoke at the graduation ceremony on Sunday, September 6, 2026, in Gardnesville, where he challenged the graduates to prepare themselves for future leadership roles.

According to him, leadership begins with character, urging the graduates to first learn how to lead themselves before seeking to lead others, and he called on the graduates to be responsible, respect others, keep their word, and value people who contribute to their growth.

At the same time, the Deputy Minister of International Cooperation and Economic Integration, Dr. Ibrahim Nyei, has pledged two foreign scholarships for students of the school.

Dr. Nyei said:” I will pursue the opportunity during the next round of foreign scholarship recruitment for the 2027 Academic Year”.

Dr. Nyei is also urging authorities to review the current school subsidy arrangements.

He argued that institutions producing quality students and serving their communities deserve greater attention.

The Deputy Foreign Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration then promised to work along with the Minister of Foreign Affairs to secure the two scholarship slots.
