Monrovia, Liberia – The Executive Committee of the Liberian National Union has suspended its secretary General Edward Soko for time indefinite for acts incompatible to laws governing the party.

The action of the party is based on an investigation conducted by LINU in line with 12 political parties calling on the Liberian senate not to confirm Cllr. Ndubusi Nwabudike, then National Election Commission Chairman designate.

The action of the party is based on a story in the March 27 edition of the Inquirer News Paper under the caption “NEC Boss Designate Faces Tough Confirmation Hearing Today  … 12 Political Parties Want Him Rejected

In publication, Mr. Edward Soko signed a petition on behalf of 12 political parties informing the Liberian senate that the NEC Chairperson-designate still holds allegiance to his country of birth according to the Nigerian Constitution and therefore must not be confirmed.

The political parties at the time said confirming Cllr. Nwabudike has the propensity to engender electoral violence in Liberia based on credibility issues which could undermine the valuable work of international partners in bringing about lasting peace and stability in the country.

The parties wondered why such a person with a divided loyalty would be the one to conduct a pending referendum to decide whether or not Liberia accepts dual citizenship and therefore called on the Liberian Senate to reject the appointment of Cllr. Nbudusi.

A release from the Executive Committee said findings from an investigation conducted by the party, clearly proof that the Secretary General unilaterally sign a press release calling on the senate to reject the NEC Chairman designate.

In a release, LINU Executive Committee declares that the action of its Secretary General, Edward Soko was a breach of the confidence the party repose in him.

The release further advise the public, its affiliates  and collaborators including state actors not to do business with the suspended Secretary General of LINU until otherwise.
