Engage communities, policy makers to…- Madam Njihia

MOMBASA, KENYA (Musu Sirleaf)-The Africa Program Officer of the United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction, Isabel Njihia, is urging the media to effectively engage communities and policy makers to ensure positive actions are taken to address disasters across the continent.

Madam Njihia said:” The Sendai Framework recognized the role of the Media to influence disaster Risk Reduction.”

Speaking Monday, January 27, 2020, in Mombasa, Kenya, at the start of a 4 day Media Training on Disaster Risk Reduction, for over 40 Journalists across Africa, Madam Njihia wants journalists understand the Sendai Framework and the Disaster Risk Reduction agenda.

She disclosed that the agenda is relating to other frameworks including the sustainable development goals and the climate change agreement.

Meanwhile, the secretary General of the Disaster Risk Reduction Network of African Journalists, (DIRAJ), David Onino, said the importance of the Network is to increase the quality and quantity on Disaster reports.
