WASHINGTON, D.C., USA-Diaspora Liberians have been challenged to support the Liberian Government’s quest to build a better Liberia.

According to our reporter, President Joseph Boakai sounded the plea at the 2026 Annual Diaspora Conference in Washington, D.C., the United States of America, over the weekend.

President Boakai also called on Diaspora Liberians and those back home to become active participants in the country’s rebuilding process.

The President, however, warned that Liberia’s transformation drive will remain elusive unless diaspora citizens and those back home support the government’s development agenda over political discretion.

The Liberian Leader also boasted of the government’s ongoing progress in several sectors of the Liberian economy since his ascendancy to the Liberian presidency.

At the same time, Liberians in the diaspora have hailed the Liberian government for gains made in the fight against illicit drugs and substance abuse in Liberia.

At the Annual Presidential Town Hall Meeting in the US over the weekend, the citizens said:” The increase in drug abuse among young people has become worrisome”.

Despite the gains, they, however, urged the government to intensify its crackdown on the menace to safeguard the future of Liberian youth.

Since the combined seizure of over three million US dollars’ worth of narcotics in the country, the government has taken stringent measures to curb the influx of illicit drugs into Liberia.

This move by the government has led to arrests, including former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor, who has allegedly been linked to drug trafficking and distribution across the country.

At the same time, the National Muslim Council Diaspora Chapter has presented a certificate to President Joseph Boakai in recognition of his support to the Muslim Community.

The President of the Chapter, Dr. Brima Sylla, said:” The certificate highlights President Boakai’s commitment to religious diversity and the stability in which all citizens can thrive”.

Dr. Sylla referenced the President’s intervention and contributions to the Muslim Community during the 2025 Hajj, something he described as commendable.

He said such a decisive step taken by the Liberian Leader renewed hope and demonstrates his commitment to upholding religious tolerance and prioritizing the well-being of all Liberians regardless of faith or background.

Dr. Brima Sylla made the presentation over the weekend in Maryland, the United States, during the Presidential Town Hall Meeting.

Meanwhile, the President of the Diaspora Community in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas spoke of the importance of the Diaspora Community in moving Liberia forward.

Sabastian Teclar said: “The gathering aims at bridging the gap between the President’s administration and the Liberian diaspora to ensure total inclusion in national progress”.

Teclar added that these events are also important to encourage the members of the Diaspora Community to remain active participants in Liberia’s economic growth from afar.

According to him, the meeting has, over the years, provided an opportunity for the diaspora to interact directly with the President regarding successes and challenges of his administration.

The yearly gathering brings together Liberians from diverse geographical locations, including Africa, Europe, and Asia, to discuss issues of national importance.
