MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Rubber Planters Association of Liberia (RPAL) has welcomed the Government’s decision to ban the export of unprocessed natural rubber, describing it as a major intervention to strengthen the sector and protect farmers.
The Association says the policy is expected to curb exploitation of farmers, encourage local processing, and boost job creation in the rubber industry.
Addressing a news conference Tuesday in Margibi, RPAL Vice President, Bannie Brown, praised President Joseph Boakai for what he described as a bold move to improve farmers’ livelihoods.
Mr.Brown said rubber farmers have long faced low prices and limited value addition in the sector.
Meanwhile, the Association has pledged its support to the Government in implementing the policy, saying it will work with stakeholders to strengthen local processing and improve opportunities for farmers.
