MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency says it is reviewing a viral video allegedly showing a woman being abused by individuals believed to be LDEA officers.
The Agency, in a release, noted that the review is to determine the video’s credibility, identify those involved, and establish the individuals’ connection to the LDEA.
The LDEA assured the public of its zero-tolerance stance against misconduct, abuse of authority, and violations of citizens’ rights and dignity.
The release quotes the Agency as emphasizing that any officer found responsible will face disciplinary and legal action.
The Drug Enforcement Agency also reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, integrity, excellence, and the rule of law.
In a related development, the Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia has condemned a viral video allegedly showing officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency humiliating a woman during an operation.
A release from WONGOSOL says the footage appears to show the woman being recorded while naked and a young girl witnessing the incident.
WONGOSOL described the alleged actions as degrading and unacceptable.
It says that while it supports the fight against illegal drugs, law enforcement officers must respect human rights and protect the dignity of every citizen.
The organization wants those responsible to be held accountable and is urging stronger training for officers on human rights, child protection, and professional conduct.
