MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government says it will continue advancing gender equality and women’s leadership across all sectors, including foreign affairs.
Acting Foreign Minister Ethel Davis noted that the government is expanding gender and social inclusion units, finalizing Human Resource policies, and establishing a women-in-diplomacy network.
Minister Davis spoke on Wednesday at a program marking International Day of Women in Diplomacy in Monrovia.
The Acting Foreign Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring women’s representation in diplomacy is fully reflected in Liberia’s national gender policy.
She disclosed that the Foreign Ministry has measured the gaps in gender representation and is acting on findings to address them.
Also speaking, UN Women Senior Global Advisor, Dr. Abul Hasnat Kabir, stressed the need to empower women in Diplomacy.
According to Dr. Kabir, empowering women in the diplomatic space will create an enabling environment for them to thrive and achieve their full potential.
He noted that women play a transformative role in diplomacy despite limited support.
Dr. Kabir called on governments and partners across the globe to institute mechanisms to address gender gaps within the diplomatic system.
The UN Women Senior Global Advisor also stressed the need for more women’s participation in diplomacy.
