MONROVIA, LIBERIA- Several Liberian journalists and media institutions are undergoing a two-day training on national advocacy for the official abolition of the death penalty in Liberia.

The training aims to equip Journalists with knowledge and skills needed to accurately report on the death penalty, including human rights, criminal justice, and the implications of capital punishment.

Speaking at the program recently, the Secretary General of the Civil Society Human Rights Platform of Liberia, Adama Dempster, stressed that Justice must be administered through due process, fair trials, and proportionate punishment.

He urged the Participants to provide the public with factual information, while ensuring reporting does not promote vengeance or prejudice against accused persons before they are given due process.

The ongoing training is part of efforts to strengthen media advocacy and promote informed public discussion on justice, human rights, and the death penalty in Liberia.

Also speaking, British Ambassador Paul Simister has underscored the importance of the media in discussing issues surrounding the death penalty.

Amb. Simister cautioned the Liberian media to help ensure that such discussions are informed by facts and evidence.

He spoke on Tuesday, August 26, 2026, at the opening of a two-day training of Media practitioners on the death penalty in Monrovia on Tuesday.

The training is being organized by the Society for Human Rights Advocacy Platform of Liberia with Funding from the British Embassy near Monrovia.

The British envoy called on the media to continue airing and publishing stories that will help move the country forward.
