MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has denied reports that the country received financial reward from the United States for accepting third-country deportees.

Information Ministry Jerolinmek Piah said the government did not demand or receive compensation in exchange for participating in the arrangement.

The clarification follows a report by the New York Times claiming that the United States approved five million U.S. dollars for Liberia in connection with the agreement.

Minister Piah explained that U.S. support under the arrangement is intended to help Liberia manage the program and strengthen its migration system.

Meanwhile, the first batch of third-country nationals expected to be transferred to Liberia arrived in the country on August 20, 2026
