MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Education Minister Dr. Jarso Jallah has announced the reintroduction of civics education at the primary level in Liberian schools.

Minister Jallah said the initiative will help children understand citizenship, democracy, rights, responsibilities, and integrity.

She also launched standardized civics textbooks for primary schools, with support from Wahalla Publishing Company, to strengthen teaching and learning.

Minister Jallah said schools, parents, communities, institutions, and public officials must model responsible citizenship because children learn by observing adults.

She said the return of civics education will help children understand Liberia’s heritage while developing the knowledge, honesty, integrity, and responsibility needed to build its future.

For awards, the Cathedral Catholic High School has won first place in Liberia’s 179th National Flag Day parade, following a rigorous assessment by an Armed Forces-led judging team.

St. Theresa Convent Catholic High School placed second, while G.W. Gibson High School secured third place in the national competition.

The judging team assessed participating schools on time management, alignment, command projection, arms drill, appearance, and discipline.

William V.S. Tubman High School was named the most disciplined school, while Liberia Duja High School received the best-dressed award.

The competition brought together students from participating schools, with judges comprising active and retired Armed Forces of Liberia personnel, including ROTC instructors and newly trained drill instructors.

The judges commended the students for their commitment, noting that some stayed overnight at the BTC Barracks and continued preparations despite heavy rainfall.
