Liberia Special Economic Zones Authority Says Liberia on Verge of Signing Major Agreement…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Executive Chairman of the Liberia Special Economic Zones Authority, Prince Wreh, says Liberia is on the verge of signing a major agreement with an international developer to establish factories for manufacturing and agricultural value addition in Grand Bassa County.

Wreh disclosed on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, while addressing journalists at a two-day media training program organized by the Liberia Special Economic Zones Authority in Monrovia.

He said the agreement, once finalized, will see a big international developer set up factories at the Liberia Special Agro Processing Zone in Buchanan, processing rubber, coffee, cocoa, rice, and palm.

The Executive Chairman said the flagship project is being jointly implemented with the National Investment Commission and is fully funded by the African Development Bank.

He disclosed that contractors are currently on site, clearing approximately 210 hectares of land, installing electricity poles, and fencing the entire zone.

Wreh also revealed that the Authority is in ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to ensure a seamless transition of the Monrovia Industrial Park under the special economic zones regime.

Earlier on, the President of the Press Union of Liberia, Julius Kanuba, said the role of the media is critical to encouraging investment and driving economic growth in Liberia.

He said how journalists report on Liberia’s economic zones directly determines the level of economic activities, trade, and development the country attracts from investors.

The Press Union President says that information on the operations and activities of the country’s five nationally recognized economic zones remains critically limited in the Liberian media landscape.

Kanuba commended the management of the Liberia Special Economic Zones Authority for organizing the training, describing it as an important step in expanding media understanding of the Authority’s mandate.

He urged journalists and media practitioners to place a laser focus on the economy, stressing that quality economic reporting is imperative for Liberia’s forward development and investment attraction.
