MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has described the influx of undocumented Burkinabe in Grand Gedeh County and other parts of the southeast as alarming.
President Boakai said,” Reports have indicated over time that those Burkinabe are being heavily involved in the Mining and Agriculture Sectors and the economic viability of the country”.
The Liberian Leader, speaking at a cabinet meeting in Monrovia on Thursday, May 28, 2026, acknowledged the recent assessment conducted by the Liberia Repatriation and Resettlement Commission and called for more to be done in addressing the alarming situation.
He said the situation remains grave and stressed the government’s dedication through the Liberia Refugee Repatriation Resettlement Commission (LRRRC) to curtail the creeping challenge.
More than eight thousand undocumented Burkinabe have been reported in recent times to be residing in Grand Gedeh County and several parts of the South-Eastern region.
The recent outbreak of the Ebola Virus in Uganda and DR Congo has caused the Institute of Liberia to heighten surveillance across Liberia.
Meanwhile, President Boakai is cautioning Liberians to adhere to all preventive measures instituted by the Ministry of Health and NPHIL in the fight against the Ebola virus.
He said the Government, through the Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Institute in Liberia, remains Ebola-free. It is also important for citizens, including foreign residents, to remain on high alert and follow instituted preventive guidelines.
Since President Boakai emphasized the constant washing of hands, the avoidance of crowded areas, and reporting suspicious cases to the requisite authorities as some ways citizens can get involved in the fight against the disease.
The Liberian leader made the call on Thursday in Monrovia, at the start of a cabinet meeting.
President Boakai, in his introductory remarks, highlighted other critical issues affecting Liberia’s growth and development and proffered ways to remedy the challenges.
