BUCHANAN, GRAND BASSA COUNTY, LIBERIA-The 2026 Independence Day Orator, Dr. Herbert Brewer, has emphasized the need for Liberia to reclaim its deep historical roots as a source of strength and identity.
Dr. Brewer described Liberian history as a national asset, noting that understanding how the country arrived at its present state is essential to building a shared sense of purpose among all Liberians.
According to him, the founding of the Liberian Republic was never solely the work of the American Colonization Society (ACS), as history often portrays.
He said,” African-American pioneers such as Reverend Lott Carey and local leaders, including William Campbell, David Noah, and William Davis, played decisive roles”.
Dr. Brewer hailed the resilience of Liberians in preserving their sovereignty through skilled diplomacy spanning nearly two centuries.
The 2026 Independence Day Orator then called on young Liberians to inherit the sacrifices of their ancestors with honesty and humility, and build a patriotic spirit that translates into national development.
