MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The European Union-funded solar power project in Greenville, Sinoe County, is making significant progress and is expected to be completed by July this year.
The Deputy Information Minister for Press and Public Affairs, Daniel Sando, disclosed during the Ministry of Information Regular Press Briefing that the project includes the installation of an 820-kilowatt solar plant, aimed at restoring electricity to Greenville City for the first time since the civil war.
According to Minister Sando, the solar system will also include battery storage and backup generators to support a stable electricity supply in the county.
He said,” The project is expected to provide electricity to more than 5,000 homes, businesses, and public institutions across Greenville”.
The government believes the initiative will help boost economic development and improve access to reliable electricity in southeastern Liberia.
In another development, the Liberia Telecommunications Authority has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding digital access and supporting education across Liberia.
Deputy Information Minister Daniel Sando said,” The LTA Chairperson, Clarence Massaquoi, made the statement during the launch of the National Student Spelling Competition”.
According to Minister Sando, the LTA is currently working through its School Connectivity Initiative to connect 156 public senior high schools to internet services across the country.
He said,” The Universal Access Program is also expanding internet connectivity to underserved communities nationwide”.
The LTA has additionally announced an initial contribution of 15,000 United States dollars toward the 2026 National Student Spelling Competition as part of its support for education and youth empowerment in Liberia.
