MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Concerns are mounting over delays by police in investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of two Catholic priests in March this year.
The police, in March, communicated with the Catholic Church, stating that it had launched an investigation into the suspicious deaths of Reverend Fathers Alphonsus Mombo and Roland Biah.
The concerns are growing out of the fact that the church cannot proceed with any funerals, because the bodies of the two priests are the subject of a supposed police investigation.
The Catholic Church had earlier responded to the police, interposing no objection to the planned investigation, but the delay is now a cause for concern among the Catholic faithful.
Reverend Fathers Alphonsus Mombo and Rolan Biah died within days of each other, after attending a funeral in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
Fifty-five-year-old Father Mombo, Rector of the St. Charles Luwanga Pre-Major Seminary in Paynesville, died on March 11, 2026, while fifty-three-year-old Biah, Parish Priest of St. Anthony of Padua in Gardnerville, died two days later on March 13.
The police have persistently said that there is no update to provide to the public, after several inquiries by our Reporter.
