Pres. Boakai Terms Grand Cape Mount County Road Corridor Groundbreaking Ceremony Crucial…

GRAND CAPE MOUNT COUNTY, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has termed the groundbreaking event for the construction of the road corridor in Grand Cape Mount County as a crucial moment in Liberia’s journey towards progress.

President Boakai said,” It symbolized an important landmark in the Liberian Government’s drive to deliver concrete and viable services to its citizenry”.

He disclosed that upon the completion of the road, it will connect Grand Cape Mount, Montserrado Counties, and other parts of Liberia to neighboring Sierra Leone.

The Liberian Leader noted that the expansion of roads across Liberia is vital to end decades of rural abandonment, lack of road connectivity, and improves agriculture productivity.

President Joseph Boakai spoke on Saturday, April 18, 2026, when he and his Sierra Leonean counterpart, Julius Maada Bio, broke ground for the construction of 255 kilometers of primary roads in Grand Cape Mount County.

Meanwhile, Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio described the road corridor as a significant part of the sub-region’s economic future and growth.

President Bio said,” The corridor will provide the potential benefits for trade and commerce, which people across the sub-region will appreciate”.

He called for a similar model of roads in West Africa, stressing the success of public-private partnerships.

President Bio indicated that the corridor is a step towards breaking down the level of division.

The Sierra Leonean President also spoke highly of the road corridor and how it will enhance the region’s economic integration.

At the same time, Liberia’s Acting Public Works Minister Prince Tamba highlighted the significance of quality roads towards economic growth and critical infrastructure improvement in the sub-region.

Minister Tamba said,” The construction of roads also holds the authority to unlock investment opportunities and spur human capital development.

He noted that as part of the five-year project, thirty-eight kilometers of road will be constructed between the Saint Paul Bridge in Montserrado County and Klay in Bomi County.

He also disclosed that the construction of seventy-nine kilometers of road from Klay to Bo Waterside in Grand Cape Mount County, and an additional thirty kilometers of road from Madina to Robertsport.

According to Minister Tamba, the project, worth over three hundred sixty-four million U.S. dollars, upon completion, will enhance the transportation of goods and services and expand development across the two countries.
