MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) has begun barricading its 72nd barracks ahead of the 14-day ultimatum given to illegal occupants to leave the property.
On Monday, January 19, 2026, the AFL issued a fourteen-day evacuation notice to occupants of Camp Regrow, commonly known as the 72 Barracks.
The Army said,” The move is intended to allow renovation of facility barracks for military use, providing accommodation to enable military personnel, a measure expected to reduce overcrowding at the Edward Binyen Kesselly Barracks.”
During the issuance of the Evacuation notice, Brigadier General Theophilus Dana highlighted the importance of the facility, especially at a time when the AFL is conducting recruitment to increase its personnel strength.
Given the seriousness of the evacuation mandate, in the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 20, 2026, a platoon from the engineering battalion began barricading the facility.
The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia, Brigadier General Davidson Forleh, told ELBC on Tuesday, January 20, that since 2013, the Army has been engaging the residents to vacate the facility, but all efforts have failed.
The Army Chief of Staff maintained that the issue of political intervention has, over time, slowed down efforts to reclaim the property, citing that this time they will leave by all means.
The Army Chief also outlined a series of illegal activities at the Barracks, including power theft, drug abuse, and other violent acts, among others, which also fueled the evacuation notice.
