‘Heart to Serve Missions’ Kicks-off Activities in Africa

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Heart to Serve Missions, an American-based Christian organization has commenced activities in Africa, beginning in Liberia and Uganda.

The Organization is dedicated to serving people around the world through the love of Jesus Christ by meeting physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

In Liberia, Heart to Serve Missions is collaborating with a local organization, United Youth, to provide safe drinking water to communities and provide livelihood assistance to underprivileged people including the disabled.

As part of its water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) activities, the Organization is undertaking two handpump projects worth 3,000 United States dollars each in the Bacconie Community (about 1,000 residents) in Grand Bassa County and the Grand Bassa County Highway Community of two hundred inhabitants.

Residents of the two communities fetch water from pools of groundwater for drinking, cooking, bathing, washing clothes, and other uses.

Besides, the residents travel a distance into the forest to collect the water which is often contaminated by animal feces. The Organization believes the intervention of constructing handpumps in the communities will relieve residents of their WASH challenges.

Still in Grand Bassa County, Heart to Serve Missions renovated a four-room latrine which was constructed by United Youth for the disabled at the Group of 77 compound. Heart to Serve Missions also provided food and mattresses to the disabled at the facility.

In Montserrado County, the Organization has constructed a handpump at the Build Liberia School in the Cook Spoon Hill Community, Pipe Line, in Paynesville, and another handpump in the Guinea Community in the Soul Clinic area, also in Paynesville.

Blind people in the Nimba United Community in Paynesville have benefited from the supply of food from Heart to Serve Missions, while the Organization has constructed a three-bedroom house for a single grandmother of six grandchildren in Monrovia. The Organization is expected to provide yearly education sponsorship to the family.

In an interview with ELBC Radio during a recent visit to Liberia, Heart to Serve Missions Founder, John Burns, promised to lead more missionaries to Liberia to help the people of the Country.

“When I go back home and tell people about the experiences here, I can not do so much. I can’t give them the full experience, so I want people to come here and experience and be able to help people,” Mr. Burns explained.

Mr. Burns said he wants to help whoever needs help and, at the same time, help as many people as he can. The Christian Missionary noted that the world is a dark place and if we can bring a little bit of light to it then we have done our part.

He said: “Anytime we give a physical need, there is a spiritual need too. So, we always share the gospel with people and try to spread that light. Because that’s my main focus.”

For his part, United Youth Executive Director, Timothy Kpeh, assured of doing more to help Liberians with the assistance of the United States-based organization, Heart to Serve Missions.

“More and more people are in need at the rural level and there’s a need to keep doing what we are doing. And the good thing about the organization is that it is driven by God,” Mr. Kpeh asserted.

He described the coming of Heart to Serve Missions to Liberia as a blessing for the country.
