Two Liberian Maritime Officials Sentenced to Nine Years Each in South Korea

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Two Liberian Maritime officials have been sentenced to nine years in prison each by a court in Busan, South Korea, on the charge of sexual assault.

In September last year, Moses Owen Brown and Daniel Tarr, were arrested on sexual assault allegation by police Busan, where they were attending a Maritime Conference.

On Wednesday, April 5, 2023, Moses Brown and Daniel Tarr were found guilty of sexual assault in a scheduled verdict hearing court and sentenced to nine years each in prison each.

However, the Liberian Government says it is exploring various appeal options in South Korea over the sentencing.

The Liberian Government said it has instructed its legal representation, Pureum Law Office, to furnish it with the various Appeal Options available to criminal defendant under Korean Law.

According to the release, Government has also established that any appeal from such verdict has to be exercised no later than seven days, following the guilty verdict.

Meanwhile, the Government has promised to facilitate the visit to Busan, each family member from Moses Brown and Tarr in the aftermath of the sentencing.
