UL Faculty Association Supports Policy of Nat’l Commission on Higher Education

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA) has announced its support to the new policy instituted by the National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE) affecting higher institutions of learning.

In its policy released last week, the NCHE reminded universities and colleges that Presidents and Vice Presidents for Academic Affairs must possess an earned Academic Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree.

According to a release, the ULFA Leadership said it sees the latest policy as a step in the right direction in improving academic standards in the Country.

The ULFA, however, said that it is taken aback by a recent counter pronouncement by the Ministry of Education, suspending the NCHE policy.

ULFA Leadership stated that it recalled eighteen months ago all faculty members (Full and Part Time) were requested to submit their credentials to the Vice President for Academic Affairs for what it referred to as “Credentials Audit”.

It wonders why the Ministry of Education Authorities are yet to take a position on the proliferation of ‘fake’ credentials in academia, but instead will seek to halt the policy.
