Liberia to benefit from Pres. Weah’s meeting with Sheikh bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah and Emir of Qatar, Sheikh bin Hamad Al Thani, have had a bilateral meeting on the sideline of the World Cup being hosted in Qatar.

During the meeting, Sheikh Al Thani committed more funding for the Second Phase of the pavement of the Gbarnga-Mendikoma Highway Project in Lofa County.

The Emir made the commitment following President Weah’s request during the meeting, describing the road as “a critical national infrastructure”.

According to an Executive Mansion release issued recently, Qatar, through the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), has contributed to the ongoing works.

In addition, the Emir also agreed to assist the Liberian Government in meeting her development goals, as enshrined in the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD).

The Liberian Chief Executive, amongst other things, requested for cooperation and investment opportunities between Liberia and Qatar in the areas of aviation, education, agriculture, forestry, health, road development, energy, low cost housing infrastructure as well manufacturing.

As a result of the President’s requests, the Emir has agreed and promised to send a delegation from the Qatari Government and Qatari Business Community to visit Liberia early 2023.

Under the President‘s leadership, diplomatic relationship between Liberia and Qatar continues to witness positive developments at the ambassadorial level.
