MARYLAND COUNTY, LIBERIA-The Liberia National Police is investigating a 42-year-old Ghanaian Pastor for allegedly duplicating National Identification Cards in Maryland County.

Pastor Alphonso Okai of the Paul Balance Chapel International, Maryland Chapter, was arrested by the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), following a tipoff that he was involved in multiple duplications of National Identification Cards in Harper.

According to reports, suspect Okai has been allegedly issuing several identification cards to his Ghanaian compatriots in the County.

In an interview with reporters in Harper following his arrest Tuesday, September 20, 2022, suspect Okai admitted to being involved in the processing of the different identification cards for commercial purposes.

When contacted, The Director General of the National Identification Registry (NIR), Mr. Tiah Nagbe, said:” The NIR has a strong control system that prevents it from being duplicated easily.”

He said while it is true that there are people trying to infiltrate the system, it is always good for citizens to take keen note of the identification code to determine fraudsters.

He maintained that the accused will be investigated and face the penalty under the laws of Liberia, when found guilty.
