Free surgeries to begin soon at the John F. Kennedy (JFK) Memorial Hospital

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government, through the Ministry of Health, has approved the conduct of free surgeries on children suffering from various heart, throat and chest complications.

The surgical operations are expected to be conducted by renowned surgeons with years of experience from Ethiopia, under the auspices of Rescue Children’s Heart Foundation.

At a news conference over the weekend, Rescue Children’s Heart Foundation Executive Director, Jonathan Heart, said:” Final screening and selection for the surgeries are ongoing at the John F. Kennedy (JFK) Memorial Hospital in Sinkor, Monrovia.”

Mr. Heart stated that the operation will last three weeks, from October 7 to the 21St.

According to him, the total cost of the operations is over ninety-thousand United States Dollars, including transportation of surgeons and purchase of equipment.

Also speaking, the Head of the JFK Department of Surgery, Dr. Peter Coleman, said:” Bringing together cardiac-thoracic surgeons to undertake the surgical outreach is a milestone in the health delivery system of the Country.”
