Pres. Weah partakes in Sixth-Extra-ordinary Summit of ECOWAS

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah and his West African counterparts have participated in the Sixth Extra-ordinary Summit of the Economic Community of West African States.

The one-day Summit, the first in 2022, discussed critical sub-regional developments, specifically the political situation in Mali.

At the opening of the Summit, the Chair of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Ghanaian President Nana Akufo Addo, said the meeting was intended to review the transition effort in the West African State of Mali.

President Addo said:” It has claimed the attention of ECOWAS Heads of State, that the transitional Government might not meet the February deadline for the transfer of power to return Mali to civilian rule.”

According to an Executive Mansion release issued over the weekend, while the President is away, the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel McGill, will act as Chair of the Cabinet, in consultation with the Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, Jewel Howard-Taylor.

The release said, President Weah is expected to return home on Monday, January 10, 2022.
