MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah, on Thursday, joined a selected group of leaders from around the world for a global democracy summit, hosted by United States President, Joe Biden.

President Weah was among eleven leaders selected from Africa’s fifty-four countries to participate and address the US Global Summit.

The two-day summit is aimed at forming a global front to ensure the defense against democracy and human rights around the world.

President Weah reiterated Liberia’s democratic credentials at upholding the rule of law, free speech and press, human rights and political pluralism.

Speaking in an interview with ELBC on Thursday, December 9, 2021, Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie said:” The Liberian Leader promised that under his stewardship, Liberia will remain a bastion of democracy on the Continent of Africa.”

Minister Rennie said President Weah reminded the gathering of the successful holding of three successive democratic elections since his tenure, respect for human rights and dignity, and freedom of expression.

He said President Weah is on record as the first leader to call for the reduction of Presidential term limit from six to five years, saying that it is a manifestation of his commitment to upholding democratic tenants.

He reiterated Liberia’s willingness to join the global coalition in defense of democracy across the world.
