Rep. Gwaikolo decries proliferation of sub-standard nursing schools in Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – A former Chair of the House Representative’s Committee on Education, Representative Johnson Gwaikolo has decried the proliferation of nursing and laboratory schools in the country.

Rep. Gwaikolo said some of the nursing and laboratory schools accredited by the National Commission on High Education are not qualified to operate.

According to him, not only are some of the nursing schools sub-standard and lacking institutional materials, their instructional staff are also not qualified to teach.

The Nimba County lawmaker spoke, Saturday, September 18, 2021, at the launch of the Digital Examination System by the Liberia Board for Nursing and Midwifery in Monrovia.

He called on the Ministry of Education, health authorities and the National Commission on Higher Education to conduct a thorough evaluation of all nursing and laboratory schools in Liberia.

Meanwhile, the Senate Chair on Health, Senator Augustine Chea has lauded the Liberian Board for Nursing and Midwifery for introducing the digital system and promised to advocate for more budgetary allotment to the Board.
