MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Several family heads are trooping into market places to buy lime, garlic and ginger they perceived to be treatment for the Coronavirus.

The buyers who spoke to ELBS on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, explained that the products are concocted and taken as a drink.

According to them, the mixture of lime, garlic and ginger has the potential to fight against cold-related to COVID-19.

As a result of the huge interest in the mixture, the prices of the lime, garlic and ginger products have sky rocketed, making those items scarce in some areas.

Prior to the spark in Coronavirus cases, a bag of ginger was sold for six-thousand Liberian Dollars, but now sold for eight-thousand-five-hundred.

Before the recent spark, a single lime was sold for five LRD but now sold for around forty LRD.

A piece of garlic was sold for twenty LRD but is being sold at seventy LRD.

In another development, at least five health workers have reportedly died of COVID-19 and more than two-hundred tested positive of the virus.

The disclosure was made Tuesday, June 22, 2021, by the President of the Liberia Medical and Dental Association (LMDA), Doctor Emmanuel Ekanabah, in an ELBC interview.

Doc. Ekanabah said:” The infected health workers are currently in treatment units undergoing medication.”

He said heath workers in the frontline against COVID-19 fight are at serious risk.

He wants the creation of more isolation centers to adequately accommodate the growing number of Coronavirus patients in the various treatment centers.

The LMDA President said other counties are gradually adhering to the health protocols, which will help in curtailing the widespread of the virus.

About ninety-six-thousand doses of the extra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccines are due to arrive in Liberia shortly.

Deputy Health Minister, Doc. Francis Kateh, told ELBC Tuesday, June 22, 2021, that the jabs will be in Liberia in July.

Doc. Kateh said:” Upon arrival of the vaccines, health authorities will begin a nationwide vaccination campaign to protect citizens against the virus.”

The Chief Medical Officer expressed delight that people are showing interest in taking the vaccines.

At the same time, Doc. Kateh said the Ministry of Health is making use of its existence structures in the counties to provide health services at the various borders.

According to Doc. Kateh, the Ministry does not have enough resources to have health workers stationed at various borders and entry points.
