Mines, Energy Ministry wants support to fight illicit mining

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Mines and Energy Minister, Gesler Murray is calling for critical budgetary support and more logistics to boost the Ministry’s efforts in curbing illicit mining activities in the country.

In an ELBC interview Monday, Minister Murray said the lack of logistics and equipment is seriously impeding the Ministry’s fight against illicit mining across the country.

Minister Murray made specific reference of motorbikes, vehicles to enhance the work of the Ministry’s Inspectorate Division.

He maintained that the fight against illicit mining is a collective responsibility of all Liberians, not just the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

Minister Murray, at the same time urged local miners to mine in a sustainable manner to avoid environmental degradation. By Zechariah Jigbeh
