Pres. Weah wants 2018 Nat’l Census extended

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah is seeking a joint legislative resolution, mandating the Executive to conduct a National Census by further extending the 2018 census from March 8, 2021 to March 20, 2022.

In a communication to the House of Representatives Thursday, May 7, 2021, President Weah cited a communication from Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS), in which they complained of not deploying staffers as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The President, among other things, also said LISGIS could not order the requisite logistics for the process.

According to him, the body believes pushing the census to 2022 will afford them sufficient time to conduct a nationwide census and other related activities.

Meanwhile, the instrument has been forwarded to the committees on Good Governance and Judiciary, to report to plenary within of one week.
