KAKATA, MARGIBI, LIBERIA -The German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) has graduated about 45 Level-3 Road Maintenance and Construction Craft persons after 12-month of intensive road maintenance training.
According to the Project Manager, William Zayzay the training became necessary following studies, indicating that Liberian roads were not being managed and maintained properly.
Mr. Zayzay said the 45 graduates consist of 35 males and 10 females Engineers were selected from 10 counties. The graduates are the first batch of trained Maintenance and Construction Craft persons who will help with Liberia’s road maintenance problems.
The GIZ Director, Matthias Schroeder said he’s impressed seeing the first batch of graduates from a project launched in 2017 to help with the development and maintenance of Liberian roads.
Mr. Schroeder said: “While Germany and other international partners are providing training opportunities for Liberia, it behooves Liberians to make the best use of this training”.
He urged the graduates to see their professions as the beginning of a new era in which they ought to do their best in exhibiting their skills to help Liberia.
The training was made possible with the German government’s support and implemented by GIZ. The graduation of the Road Maintenance and Construction Craft persons took place Thursday, April 29, 2021,
at the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) Campus in Kakata.
The German Ambassador to Liberia reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Liberia’s infrastructural and men-power developments, as the CDC-Led government strives to change situations in Liberia.
Ambassador Hubert Jager, said: “Germany has and will continue to provide support to Liberia in various sectors through its development agency, the GIZ”.
Mr. Jager said his government’s capacity-building engagement with Liberia has also being concentrated through the contribution of more than 67 million Euros for the Liberia Reconstruction Trust Fund (LRTF) being managed by the World Bank.
He said in support of President George Weah’s quest to have Liberia connected by quality roads, his government has supported the training of 45 Road Maintenance and Construction Craft persons to help maintain the roads being provided and said, Germany looks forward to deepening its relationship with Liberia.
