Education Ministry halts nationwide retirement of public school teachers

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Education says it has suspended the nationwide retirement of public school teachers.

According to ELBC Reporter, this followed recent disclosure by the Civil Service Agency (CSA), when authorities appeared before the House of Representatives that the process was halted.

Appearing before the House of Representatives on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, Education Minister Ansu Sonii said:” The recent retirement of over two-thousand teachers has undermined the sector.”

Prof. Sonii noted that nearly eight-hundred-fifty-two volunteers have replaced a number of teachers retired or abandoned posts, including training of others who might be preferred.

However, the Plenary of the House of Representatives has requested the Ministry of Education to make a periodic appearance before its Education Committee to provide briefings.
