MONROVIA, LIBERIA -The United States Embassy Charge’ d’ Affairs, Alyson Grunder says the Cash Transfer Program focuses on investing in and empowering economically and socially disadvantaged Liberians.

Charge’ d’ Affairs, Grunder said: “The United States Government will support vulnerable Liberians hard hit by the Corona Virus Pandemic”.

She termed the cash transfer program as a powerful poverty reduction tool and a game changer to vulnerable and economically disadvantaged people.

Madam Grunder speaking during the official Zoom launch of the USAID-Liberia Cash Transfer, Thursday, December 18, 2020, program by Zoom said the program will support families, households, reduce community burden and small scale enterprises and agriculture.

She re-iterated the US commitment to supporting the government’s Pro-Poor Agenda to ensure affordable access to education and health care.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister, Samuel Tweah, said the cash transfer promotes social protection in line with government’s Pro-Poor Agenda. Mr. Tweah said: “Under the program. 85,000 Liberians in six counties are expected to benefit from the implementation of the program by an NGO, ‘Give Direct’.

He pledged government’s commitment to ensuring that the beneficiaries are enrolled in a digital system through fair and transparent process.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia(CBL)Aloysius Tarlue assured USAID and government of accountability in the implementation of their direct cash transfer program.

According to Governor Tarlue “the program will also identify key priority areas that will enhance economic growth and development in Liberia”. He said the continue assistance from the American Government through USAID has demonstrated true friendship between the two countries over the years.

Montserrado County District –# 4 Representative, Rustolyn Suakoko Dennis told the Zoom launching that the National Legislature will be concerned about targeted beneficiaries under the program.

“The success of the program will depend on how information surrounding it, is being received by the beneficiaries”, Representative Dennis told the panel. She noted that USAID and Government of Liberia direct cash program is in the right direction.
