Liberia’s Global Justice Research Project Lauds Arrest of RUF Rebel in Finland

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – A member of Liberia’s Global Justice and Research Project has described the arrest of former RUF rebel, Gibril Massaquoi in Finland, as welcoming.

Fayah Williams said the move is positive step towards holding people accountable for the crimes they committed in Liberia during the civil wars.

Mr. Massaquoi is believed to have lived in Finland for at least 10 years prior to his arrest.

He is said to have allegedly committed sexual violence, homicide, the recruitment and use of child soldiers in Liberia from 1999 to 2003, including Liberia’s Global Justice and Research Project is linked with a Swiss Organization working to ensure justice for victims of war crimes, Civitas Maxima.
