MONROVIA, LIBERIA (DANIEL ANKRAH REPORTS) – Representative Snowe has said:” ECOWAS is making interventions to reduce political tensions in more than six Countries in West Africa”.

Mr. Snowe  is a member of the ECOWAS Parliament  for Liberia, pointed out that most of the tension is surrounding leaders wanting to contest for a third term, something he said, is not allowed by their various Constitutions.

He spoke to ELBC Monday, January 20, 2020.

The ECOWAS Parliament, also known as the Community Parliament, is a forum for dialogue, consultation and consensus for representatives of the people of West Africa with the aim of promoting integration.

It was established under Article 6 and 13 of the ECOWAS Revised Treaty of 1993.

The Protocol relating to the Parliament was signed in Abuja on 6th August, 1994 and entered into force in 14th March, 2002. It provides for the structure, composition, competence and other matters relating to the Parliament.

Representative Snowe also wants the Liberian Government do more in its information dissemination strategy to reduce the misinformation about government to the public.

He however, spoke of progress by the body in maintaining peace in the Sub-Region and expressed concern over the political tensions in Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast, Niger, Burkina Faso and Ghana, including Togo and the Gambia.
