GRAND CAPE MOUNT COUNTY, LIBERIA- The National Food Assistance Agency has provided one hundred bags of 25kg rice to eight flood-affected communities in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County.
The provision followed an assessment conducted by the agency to gather firsthand information on individuals and communities that were affected by the recent flood in Robertsport.
Providing the overview, NFAA Deputy Director General for Operations Elton Dickson lauded the county authorities for the level of cooperation given to the Agency, assuring the beneficiaries of the entity’s continued commitment to providing food assistance for the vulnerable population.
Meanwhile, NFAA Deputy Director General for Publicity, Mike Jabateh, revealed that the rice was provided by the Ousmane Sackor Aid Foundation in Israel.
Deputy Director Jabateh disclosed that the agency plans to construct a feeding center in the coming months that will be used as a feeding hub for vulnerable citizens of Grand Cape Mount.
Receiving the items, the County Superintendent Foday Kiatamba and Mayor of Robertsport, Thomas Massaquoi, lauded the agency for their timely intervention and assured that the intended beneficiaries will receive the food.
At the same time, a retired government official and Victim of the flood in Robertsport, Eric Pinney, called on the government to provide them with sanitation tools that will enable them to clean the clogged drains in the various communities.
Pinney emphasized that food aid is important but believes that when the mayor’s office is supplied with tools that can be used to clean the gutters, the seawater will have free flow should there be a recurrence of the situation.
He named tools such as shovels, hoes, diggers, and rakes, among others, as essential sanitation materials that would enable citizens to clean the waterways and minimize flooding.
Pinney lauded the NFAA for the food aid, describing the intervention as timely.
