NIMBA COUNTY, LIBERIA-The Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) wants a comprehensive policy and regulatory framework to guide the practice of traditional medicine in Liberia.
LMDC Registrar General, Dr. Augustus Quiah, made the call recently during the 24th African Traditional Medicine Day celebrations held in Sanniquellie, Nimba County.
The celebrations were held under the theme:” Reflection on Research and Development Efforts of Traditional Medicine towards Achieving Universal Health Coverage in Liberia”.
Dr. Quiah said:” Effective regulation would also provide an opportunity to strengthen partnerships among government institutions, academic and scientific researchers, as well as conventional healthcare and traditional medicine practitioners”.
He noted that while conventional healthcare remains an essential component of the national health system, traditional medicine is also essential to achieving Universal Health Coverage.
