MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Housing Authority (NHA) says Liberia needs more than 200,000 new housing units to address the country’s housing shortage.
The Managing Director Florence Geegbae disclosed the Ministry of Information press briefing on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
She said:” About 70 percent of Liberia’s population lives in slum communities with poor housing conditions, and more than 500,000 urban housing units will be needed by 2030”.
Madam Geegbae said the NHA has received designs from four private partners. The designs include three-bedroom, two-bedroom and two-bedroom duplex units.
She said:” The designs have been approved by the Ministry of Public Works, and the NHA is now working to complete the required processes before construction begins”.
The Managing Director said the housing program is intended to increase access to affordable homes. She also said the authority is working with private partners to respond to Liberia’s growing housing needs.
