MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A five-day leadership and statistical management training for managers of National Statistical Systems of ECOWAS Member States has opened in Monrovia.
Speaking at the event on Monday, October 5, 2026, the Director General of the Liberia Institute for Geo-Information Services (LISGIS), Richard Ngafuan, commended ECOWAS for building the capacity of national staff across the region.
Ngafuan said:” Continuous training from ECOWAS Statistics and other international partners has improved statistical data collection for policy formulation”.
The training focuses on digital transformation, governance and coordination of national statistical systems, ethical leadership, and statistical integrity, among others.
Managers from ECOWAS Member States, including Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria, Guinea, Togo, and Sierra Leone, are participating in the five-day training.
At the same time, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Augustine Ngafuan, has reaffirmed the government of Liberia’s commitment to improving agriculture, infrastructure, and health.
Minister Ngafuan said:” Prioritizing agriculture and food security will reduce import dependence and create rural wealth across the country”.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to road infrastructure connecting counties, opening markets, and lowering the cost of doing business in Liberia.
The finance minister added that governance and the rule of law will entrench accountability and investors’ confidence, while education and skills development are aimed at empowering the youthful population.
His statement was contained in a statement delivered on the Minister’s behalf at the ongoing ECOWAS Leadership and Statistical Management Training by Acting Deputy Minister for Economic Management, Henry Nyanquoi.
