MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia says it is committed to reversing the controversial harmonization policy to address the reduction of disposable income of many civil servants.
Deputy Minister for Information, Daniel Sando, said:” The President has reiterated his administration’s determination to revisit the policy, where one employed person often supports several members of a household”.
According to him, the harmonization policy placed additional financial pressure on civil servants by taking money away from their pockets.
Sando disclosed that the government is also considering the establishment of a Special Purpose Vehicle that would provide affordable financing to Liberian-owned businesses operating in critical sectors of the economy.
The planned measures form part of the government of Liberia’s efforts to improve the economic well-being of Liberians, support local businesses, and create conditions for economic participation.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Information has launched the Third Edition of its quarterly New Liberia Magazine, highlighting development activities and policy reforms.
He said:” The latest edition documents developments in several sectors, including road infrastructure, health, governance, and policy reform”.
According to Sando, the magazine is part of the ministry’s statutory responsibility to communicate the government programs and activities to the public.
The Deputy Information Minister said copies of the publication will be distributed to government ministries, agencies, and diplomatic missions in Monrovia.
About a hundred copies are expected to be taken to New York for distribution during the UN General Assembly, and will also be made available at the Liberian diaspora conference in the U.S.
