MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Finance Minister Augustine Ngafuan says the Liberian economy is on an irreversible path to prosperity.
Minister Ngafuan added that these growths have been largely driven by the mining and agriculture sectors.
He told ELBC Wednesday that the country’s projected GDP as of 2026 puts Liberia at 5.6 billion, which demonstrates massive growth in the country.
Minister Ngafuan said the country is on a growth trajectory, maintaining stability and addressing issues confronting the country.
The finance minister maintained that economic activities have improved, expanding services and better serving the country.
Meanwhile, Minister Ngafuan has committed the Government to making intentional investment in energy and infrastructure.
He said these sectors are critical for economic viability and growth.
The finance Minister added that due to ongoing investments in these sectors, services have expanded and the people are better served.
Speaking on the Super Morning Show on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, Minister Ngafuan said the government is building new roads and connecting thousands of citizens to the electricity grid.
He noted that the Government is well on course in meeting the demands of the Liberian people.
At the same time, Finance Minister Ngafuan has attributed the prevailing non-performing loans to the government’s failure to pay contractors and suppliers on time.
Speaking on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the National Non- Performing Loans Resolution Conference, Minister Ngafuan said,” Unpaid government obligations can leave businesses unable to service their bank loans”.
He disclosed that the government has budgeted nearly US$235 million for debt service during the current fiscal year, including over US$90 million for commercial banks.
Minister Ngafuan told the gathering government is addressing inherited debts while working to avoid creating new arrears through stronger fiscal discipline.
The finance minister called for increased private-sector growth and reforms to Liberia’s credit system to improve access to financing and support economic growth.
