MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah says the Government of Liberia remains confident that criminal cases arising from the ongoing fight against illicit drugs are supported by strong evidence and will withstand judicial scrutiny.
Speaking during the Ministry of Information regular press briefing recently, Minister Piah said” The campaign against illicit drugs is well-intentioned and should not be seen as a witch hunt, contrary to claims made by some critics”.
He said the government recognizes that cases currently before the courts should be handled through the judicial process, and that public discussions should not interfere with ongoing proceedings.
However, Minister Piah said” The government has a responsibility to clarify issues when individuals or institutions spread information that authorities believe is false or misleading”.
The information minister maintained that the government will continue its fight against illicit drugs while ensuring that all accused individuals are given due process under the laws of Liberia.
