MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The President of the African Federation of Teaching Regulatory Authorities (AFTRA), Dr. Ebby Mubanga, says Liberia’s hosting of the 2027 AFTRA Conference will provide an opportunity to showcase the country.
Dr. Mubanga said,” The conference will bring education professionals from across Africa to Liberia to exchange knowledge, research, and experiences”.
He said the gathering will also create opportunities to promote Liberia’s education sector, tourism, business, and other areas to visiting delegates from participating countries.
Dr. Mubanga said;” The 2027 gathering will be the 14th AFTRA Conference and 16th Round-table, following this year’s 13th Conference and 15th Round-table in Botswana”.
Dr. Ebby Mubanga then assured Liberia of AFTRA’s support during preparations, noting that the conference will further strengthen cooperation among African countries on teaching and learning.
At the same time, Liberia’s Education Minister, Dr. Jarso Jallah, said Liberia is working to strengthen the teaching profession as part of efforts to improve education across the country.
Dr. Jallah said,” Every parent should have confidence in the person entrusted with educating their children”.
She said teachers must be properly prepared, guided by professional standards, and given opportunities to continue developing their skills after entering the classroom.
The education minister emphasized that Liberia is addressing challenges, including teacher shortages, qualification gaps, retention, deployment, professional development, and accountability within the teaching workforce.
Dr. Jarso Jallah said the AFTRA meeting provides Liberia with an opportunity to learn from other African countries, while developing an approach that responds to the country’s own education needs.
